HISTORY

ASC Industries, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of new water pumps for automotive and light truck vehicles. ASC has succeeded in achieving consistent growth in the automotive aftermarket and continues to develop its capabilities in customer satisfaction, technical expertise, and superior product quality.

General Information

  • Employs over 2,400 total employees worldwide in USA, China, Spain and Mexico

2006

ASC becomes 7th business unit of United Components, Inc., and announces plans to become the ‘center of excellence’ for new water pumps.

ASC’s Tianjin, China division (ASCT) receives designation as a “Prominent Enterprise” by the Tianjin government for 2005. Considered the highest recognition from the government for a firm based in Tianjin, ASCT joins the ranks of Motorola and Samsung honored with these prestigious awards. Of over 2,100 foreign-invested exporting companies in Tianjin, only 69 enterprises received this high honor.

July breaks ground on an additional 65,000 square foot expansion of North Canton, OH manufacturing facility.

ASC was selected as one of Advance Auto Parts’ 2005 Vendors of the Year. Qualifications included consistent high order fill, participation in category management, timely and accurate electronic parts catalog data, responsive customer and technical service, excellent product quality, competitive pricing, and an offering of broad and late model application coverage.

ASC received an award for the highest order fill rate by Hahn Automotive Warehouse, an Alliance member. This award was the fourth received by ASC in this performance category within the last 12 months.

2005

ASC was recognized as Outstanding Private Label Supplier of the Year for the second straight year by the Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance, Inc., (the Alliance). ASC also received the Silver Level Supplier Award for Outstanding Shipping Performance for the second year in a row for order fill rates in excess of 97%.

ASC completes the construction phase of another facility in China, housing state of the art die casting cleaning centers and machining equipment utilizing full computerization. Within the company, this facility is referred to as ASC’s Tianjin, China division (ASCT).

ASC was presented with the only order fill rate award given out by Parts Depot, members of the Alliance group. ASC Industries was recognized for its outstanding ability to fulfill orders at an incredible rate of 99.82% for 2005.

The local business community recognized ASC as an Outstanding Business award winner during the Business Excellence Awards of Greater Canton, for growth and community support.

ASC Industries unveiled its complete line of new heavy-duty water pumps for the aftermarket industry. Although ASC had offered new heavy-duty pumps for years, the recent addition of six high-demand part numbers has provided the company a complete line and the consumer a choice.

Integrates voice-activated technology to streamline warranty and returns goods department.

2004

In 2004, ASC Industries received a third party audit recommendation to continue their certification to ISO/TS 16949:2002.

Achieved approval status as a Tier 1 supplier to General Motors and Daimler Chrysler.

ASC Industries, Inc. was recognized by the Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance, Inc., (the Alliance) as Outstanding Private Label Supplier of the Year for 2004. In addition, ASC was also honored with a 2004 Supplier Award for Outstanding Shipping Performance.

ASC was honored for the second year by Cascade Capital Corporation as a Business Growth Award winner.

For the second year, was singled out by United Way of Summit County as having the most improved campaign, honoring the large increase in their company’s fund drive.

2003

ASC became certified to ISO/TS 16949 in 2003, placing the company at the top rung of the ‘quality ladder.’ The awareness and strengths of ASC’s Rapid Response order fulfillment abilities were increased during the year. The company also continued to work with customers to maximize their inventory mix and increase inventory turns while increasing their product offering. ASC has increased its engineering capabilities and embarked on aggressive plans to develop and manufacture the most broad water pump product offerings in the industry.

The just-in-time / build-to-order manufacturing philosophy focus continued with the goal of providing a minimum 95% order fill rate and short cycle time with high quality OEM standards. In 2003, efforts were concentrated on the design, testing, marketing and distribution of complete water pump assemblies as well as shopping the world and building worldwide facilities for developing the highest quality and most competitive components.

ASC was honored by Cascade Capital Corporation as a Business Growth Award Winner.

2002

The new Chinese aluminum machining factory was opened by mid-year along with the installation of over $2,000,000 in new CNC machining centers. The recently acquired gray iron foundry and machining facilities underwent massive modernization with the installation of a continuous pour casting line. In the North Canton assembly factory, a new fully-automated assembly line was installed to increase production capacity. The North Canton facility expanded, adding an additional 87,000 square feet of manufacturing space.

2001

ASC upgraded both its mainframe computer hardware and manufacturing software, to accommodate future growth. This investment, along with a new multi-level automated

Span-trac packaging system designed to allow for faster turnaround on small orders, exceeded $1,000,000. Also during this year, ASC purchased another gray iron foundry machine shop, and aluminum die cast facility in mainland China. This acquisition doubled the size of its engineering department. To further expand and improve its aluminum machining capabilities, ASC began construction of a new 87,000 square foot factory, near its newly acquired casting facilities.

2000

Continuing to enhance and improve its manufacturing and quality standards, ASC obtained the prestigious QS9000 Certification. 3-D Modeling and enhanced engineering design software was added to the engineering department.

1999

ASC constructed and relocated into a new 130,000 square foot manufacturing facility specially designed for the efficient manufacturing of water pumps. The new facility is located in a foreign trade zone (FTZ) at the Akron/Canton airport in North Canton, Ohio. In addition, ASC became certified to ISO-9002.

1990

A subsidiary, ASC International, Inc., was established to manufacture water pump components in mainland China. Today, that subsidiary represents 25%-30% of the company’s supply base and is a joint venture with one of China’s leading manufacturers of water pumps.

1988

A new factory was constructed for the exclusive production of water pumps. This factory was equipped with custom-designed, specialized, just-in-time assembly work cells to increase manufacturing efficiency.

1987

ASC diversified and entered into a long-term exclusive contract with SKF Corporation, as a private label manufacturer and distributor of new automotive water pumps to the aftermarket industry.

1976

Four engineers founded ASC Industries, Inc. Ted Swaldo, the current CEO and president of ASC, was one of the original founders.
